Image Prompt Generator: Create Stunning AI Visuals for Social Media

Describe your vision, choose a style, and get detailed prompts optimized for Midjourney, DALL-E, and Stable Diffusion — with platform-perfect aspect ratios.

Visual content drives 2.3x more engagement than text-only posts on social media. But not everyone has a professional photographer on speed dial or the design skills to create scroll-stopping graphics. AI image generators like Midjourney, DALL-E, Stable Diffusion, and Leonardo AI have democratized visual creation — but they require detailed, well-crafted prompts to produce great results.

PostDart's Image Prompt Generator bridges this gap. Describe what you want in plain English, choose a visual style, select your target platform — and get a studio-quality prompt that produces professional results in any AI image generator.

Why Prompt Quality Matters

The difference between a mediocre AI image and a stunning one comes down entirely to the prompt. Compare these two prompts for the same concept:

Bad prompt: "a desk with a laptop"

Good prompt: "A minimalist flat-lay photograph of a white marble desk, shot from directly above. Features a rose gold MacBook Pro with the screen open showing a colorful dashboard, a ceramic latte cup with latte art, a small succulent in a geometric white planter, and a leather-bound journal with a gold pen. Warm natural lighting from the upper left, shallow depth of field on the edges, clean and bright aesthetic with cream and gold tones."

The second prompt gives the AI image generator specific instructions about composition, lighting, colors, materials, camera angle, and mood — resulting in an image that looks professionally shot rather than randomly generated.

Writing prompts like this from scratch takes skill and practice. PostDart's Image Prompt Generator does it for you instantly.

What the Generator Produces

For every request, the AI creates four elements:

Main Prompt — A richly detailed visual description, typically 50–100 words, optimized for AI image generators. It covers subject matter, composition, lighting, color palette, camera angle, mood, textures, and technical specifications.

Negative Prompt — A list of elements the AI image generator should actively avoid: "blurry, distorted, low quality, text watermark, extra fingers, deformed face, oversaturated, grainy, noise." This is critical for quality — it prevents the most common AI image artifacts.

Style Notes — Guidance specific to your chosen artistic style. For example, if you selected "Cinematic," the style notes might recommend: "Use 16:9 aspect ratio, add film grain in post-processing, boost shadows and highlights for a movie-poster feel."

Aspect Ratio — Platform-optimized dimensions so your image fits perfectly without awkward cropping.

Step-by-Step Walkthrough

Step 1. Open AI Studio from the sidebar and select the Image Prompt tab.

Step 2. Describe the image you want in the text field. Be as specific as possible about:

  • Subject: What is in the image? (person, product, landscape, food, abstract shapes)
  • Setting: Where? (office, beach, forest, studio, kitchen, city street)
  • Mood: How should it feel? (energetic, cozy, dramatic, peaceful, luxurious)
  • Colors: Any specific palette? (warm tones, pastel, monochrome, neon)
  • Composition: How is it framed? (close-up, wide shot, bird's eye, rule of thirds)
  • Example: "A cozy coffee shop interior at golden hour, warm wood tones, a person reading a book by the window, steam rising from a coffee cup, soft bokeh lights in the background, autumn leaves visible through the window."

Step 3. Choose a visual style from 8 options:

  • Photorealistic (📷) — Looks indistinguishable from a real photograph. Best for product shots, lifestyle imagery, and professional content.
  • Illustration (🎨) — Hand-drawn or digitally illustrated look. Best for explainer content, children's brands, and creative industries.
  • 3D Render (🧊) — Clean, modern 3D-rendered scenes. Best for tech products, gaming, and futuristic aesthetics.
  • Watercolor (🖌️) — Soft, artistic watercolor painting effect. Best for artistic brands, weddings, and feminine aesthetics.
  • Minimalist (◻️) — Clean lines, lots of whitespace, simple compositions. Best for modern brands, SaaS, and corporate content.
  • Cinematic (🎬) — Movie-poster quality with dramatic lighting and film-like color grading. Best for entertainment, fashion, and high-impact visuals.
  • Abstract (🌀) — Non-representational, texture-focused, artistic. Best for backgrounds, cover images, and creative expression.
  • Anime (⛩️) — Japanese animation style with characteristic features. Best for gaming, youth culture, and anime-focused communities.
  • Step 4. Select your target platform for aspect ratio optimization:

  • Instagram — 1:1 (square, 1080×1080px). The classic Instagram format.
  • Facebook — 16:9 (landscape, 1200×675px). Optimal for Facebook feed posts.
  • YouTube — 16:9 (landscape, 1280×720px). Perfect for thumbnails and cover art.
  • TikTok — 9:16 (vertical, 1080×1920px). Full-screen vertical format.
  • Story — 9:16 (vertical, 1080×1920px). For Instagram/Facebook Stories.
  • Step 5. Click Generate Image Prompt.

Step 6. Copy the Main Prompt and paste it into your preferred AI image generator (Midjourney, DALL-E, Stable Diffusion, Leonardo AI, etc.).

Step 7. Copy the Negative Prompt and paste it into the negative prompt field (available in Stable Diffusion, Leonardo AI, and some Midjourney modes).

Step 8. Generate the image, review, and download for use in your PostDart post.

Style Guide — When to Use Each Style

Photorealistic — When you need images that look like real photographs. Product mockups, lifestyle shots, food photography, real estate, travel. If your brand is built on authenticity, this is your default.

Illustration — When you want a creative, artistic feel. Perfect for blog covers, infographics, explainer posts, children's content, and brands that want to stand out from photo-heavy feeds.

3D Render — When you want a modern, polished, tech-forward look. Great for SaaS products, mobile app promotion, tech hardware, and futuristic concepts.

Watercolor — When you want something soft, elegant, and artistic. Ideal for weddings, beauty brands, stationery, invitations, and feminine-coded aesthetics.

Minimalist — When less is more. Clean backgrounds, simple subjects, lots of breathing room. Perfect for quotes, announcements, and brands with a refined aesthetic.

Cinematic — When you want maximum visual impact. Dramatic lighting, deep shadows, rich colors. Use for launch announcements, brand campaigns, and high-stakes content.

Abstract — When you need a background, texture, or mood piece rather than a specific subject. Great for cover images, Story backgrounds, and artistic expression.

Anime — When your audience appreciates Japanese animation aesthetics. Gaming communities, anime fans, youth-oriented brands, and creative entertainment content.

    Advanced Prompting Techniques

Want even better results? Add these details to your description before generating:

Lighting: "Golden hour side lighting", "soft studio lighting from above", "neon rim lighting", "dramatic chiaroscuro", "backlit silhouette"

Camera details: "Shot on Canon EOS R5, 85mm f/1.4", "macro lens, extreme close-up", "drone shot, bird's eye view", "wide angle 24mm"

Texture & materials: "Matte finish", "glass and chrome", "weathered wood", "brushed metal", "velvet fabric"

Atmosphere: "Foggy morning", "dust particles in light beams", "rain on window", "lens flare", "bokeh background"

The more sensory details you provide, the more the AI can work with — resulting in images that feel intentional and professionally crafted.

    Pro Tips

Always use the negative prompt. It's tempting to skip, but negative prompts prevent the most common AI image issues: distorted hands, blurry text, weird artifacts, and uncanny faces.

Generate variations. AI image generators produce different results each time. Generate 4–8 images from the same prompt and pick the best one.

Iterate. If the first result is close but not perfect, adjust your description and regenerate the prompt. Add more specifics about the elements you want to change.

Match style to platform culture. Instagram favors aesthetic, well-composed imagery. TikTok is more casual and raw. YouTube thumbnails need bold, eye-catching visuals with high contrast.

Keep a prompt library. When you find a prompt that generates great results, save it. You can reuse and modify it for similar future content.

    Availability

The Image Prompt Generator is available on Pro, Business, and Lifetime plans. There is no per-prompt cost — generate as many prompts as you need. The actual image generation happens in external tools (Midjourney, DALL-E, etc.) which may have their own costs.
